Just in case you missed the VH-1 hip hop honors, this year's theme was a celebration of Def Jam's 25th anniversary. So people like Foxy Brown hit the stage as well as Ja Rule and Ashanti, Method Man with Mary J and a host of others. Although we haven't been able to get our hands on that Mary J and Meth performance as yet, we have the Foxy, Ja Rule, Eminem and Warren G performances. So check them out under the cut and get your nostalgia on.
So me and
Reemo were checking out Va$htie's new site
and much to our delight one of Reem's favorite-ist artists did the
illustrations for it. We realized in a shock of sad surprise that we
had never written about him here. Once the horror engulfed us that you
guys may not be familiar with James Blagden we immediately sought
pennace via a dozen hail Marys and some ritualistic face carving. Okay
maybe it was more like a fight over the last of the Orangeade, an
impromptu trip to his site and a fingerpointing war about who should do
the write-up. They don't call Reems quick-draw McGraw for nothing. It
may have been my destiny to post, but Reems stuck around to dictate to
me everything of note anyway. How the 27-yr old James does the artwork
for the Brooklyn Hip-Hop festivals, How he has done illustrations for
the New York Times and King magazine, and even how he thinks me and
James should have a son named Piece-den. Oh wait no, I think that last
part was something about him being from Denver … yeah that's it.
Anyway now that you're familiar with him go ahead and pick your
favorite drawings. I dare you to find less than 5.
My friend Dan told me he put an event
together for tomorrow to kick off CMJ’s. Told him id post this flyer so
im doing my part cus imma good person lol. If your in NYC area then
you should roll through for good music and good ppl!!!

The homies U-N-I
hit us up a few weeks back to let us know that they had been honored by
MTV in presenting their latest vid “Soul Hop” off their latest album
“Fried Chicken & Watermelon”. We at Lemar & Dauley/Aside/Bside Media
are very proud of these dudes as they have consistently dropped new
heat and videos to match almost weekly. If you haven’t had the pleasure
of seeing them perform, you will have the perfect chance this November
in NYC, when they hit the stage at this years CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival. Matter a fact…L&D might have to hit the stage with them! HOFFA!!!!
In these times of economic recession its hard to find humor in
many conversations while worrying about gas prices and keeping your day
job. And the music scene at time makes its worst with bad product, but
Chicago recording artist Christian Rich
have brighten things up with a rare mixtape called “I Found My Favorite
Beats and Rhymed to Them While Watching ‘Coming to America’: The Decay
Mixtape”. The mixtape is a collaborative effort with the clothing
company Lemar and Dauley. The
interesting title derives from the duo’s effort to provide fans with
consist new music while they finish up “The Decadence” EP due out this
year. They compiled tracks from musicians who inspired their sound
including The Neptunes, Royksopp, MF Doom,
just to name a few, and recorded some impressive material within 4
days. Outstanding tracks include “A Dollar Dream”, “Monday,Tuesday”,
“Dooom” and “White Girls”. Look out for the free mixtape on Lemar and Dauley’s website as well as other music blogs SEPTEMBER 25th.
