Woozers!!! 14 years later, 1 masterpiece, and Rae lands the #10 spot on MTV's Hottest Mc's List. Thats a come up!!! Congrats!
UPDATE: Upon listening to the review in this video for the second time, I honestly stand by my opinion I stated earlier to a friend. I think OBCLPT2 is a high quality album, but I do believe everyone has willed this album into classic status because you wanted it to be so. Not that anything is wrong with this, because it happens to be an album that is almost deserving of the title, but I know if this album had dropped in 05, 06, 07, 08 or any of the years in which it was supposed to have dropped, the album would have deemed outdated by most hip hop listeners. In fact, I believe had Rae named the album “Mystery of the Invisible Chess Master” instead of OBCLPT2, yet provided the exact same music, nobody would even have remembered the albums release date, let alone actually have bought it. The point I'm making is for us to imagine how many “classics” we could actually get if we willed ourselves to accept “hip hop” when its provided to us instead of immediately disregarding it as wack or old because its not club ready! Its interesting to think how many other emcees might have already dropped a banger that we failed to give the proper playback due to our own prejudice. If not for the title this album could have gotten lost in obscurity. Smh!
