The BET hip-hop awards just aired and amongst the highlights every year is the taped cypher sessions. This year didn't dissappoint as Mos Def a.k.a. Flaco a.k.a. Black Dante ripped a cypher with Black Thought and Eminem (or shall we say Rainman) put caution tape around that cypher. On the other end of things, Nicki Minaj got on her cartoonish flow in her cypher with Buckshot Shorty of Black Moon, Crown Royal and Joey Buddens. Current TVs new show Embedded follows Mos Def for seven days while on tour in Japan. While touring Japan, Mos experiences many of the joys I miss about Japan, such as the fashion spots in Shibuya and Harajuku. With the exception of a few brands, almost everything can be found stateside, but the experience is bar none. The Japanese seem to genuinely show a heighten sense of appreciation for their “distractions” versus Americans and thus obtain a greater deal of enjoyment from them. After visiting Japan and receiving some acclaim within the fashion districts, I too, felt an overwhelming sense of appreciation for a culture that didn't understand many of the slang and references L&D uses within its garments, yet still idolize the brand's intentions, its influence and thus its impact.

Peep Mos as he arrives at a similar conclusion after copping a meeaannn leather studded jacket, hitting a sumo match and  performing to soldout crowds.
